Deepseek vs. ChatGPT: Which One is More Accurate?

In 2022 when ChatGPT was introduced to the world everyone was shocked and thought of it as a revolutionary move as it definitely was very groundbreaking and it completely changed the way one interacts with technology. Still, it was not long till something better arose and challenged it, Deepseek is such an AI model. We’ll discuss Deepseek, ChatGPT, how Depseek affected the tech giants, and which one is better in this blog.

Introduction

“Deepseek” is a name you’ve most likely heard of over the past few weeks and how NVIDIA is taking a dip as of right now, but what does NVIDIA have to do with ChatGpt and Deepseek? Well, let me explain, NVIDIA is a major Supplier of Graphic Processing Units (GPUs), application programming interfaces (APIs), and system-on-chip units (SoCs).

OpenAI relies on chips from NVIDIA as one of its key suppliers.

In this blog, we’ll see what exactly is Deepseek, how it’s affecting the big 3 of the AI world, and finally which one is better.

What exactly is Deepseek?

Deepseek is a China-based artificial intelligence software company, established in 2023, and co-founded by Liang Wenfeng. Deepseek launched more than 7 variants now, and each version is an improvised one, making it surpass the most used AI chatbot now (i.e. ChatGPT).

Deepseek is Free of cost, and it aims for AGI, tailored for businesses rather than general-purpose conversational AI, it uses Algorithms for more efficiency.

Unlike ChatGPT, it’s a Multilingual model that was pre-trained on 2 trillion tokens over more than 80+ programming languages. It’s also completely open-source, which allows anyone to view its code, design documents, use its code, and modify it freely, though it majorly excels in data retrieval and search.

One of the reasons that the AI world was so surprised and terrified by Deepseek was because the company only consists of less than 200 employees and the training cost was merely $6 million while training ChatGPT cost more than $500 million and OpenAI consists of more than 5000+ employees, Yet Deepseek managed to surpass ChatGPT shortly after releasing their latest model. Now that there are multiple AI models available in the market.

Which one is the best?

People majorly use ChatGpt or Gemini but after the launch of Deepseek, it surpassed all other AI models on the 25th of January which led to the loss of $600 billion in the market value of NVIDIA.

How Deepseek Affected OpenAI and NVIDIA?

Since the launch of the latest version of Deepseek, OpenAI and NVIDIA both had major losses because of Deepseek’s ability to be more precise and retrieve data with relevant info, without having to pay a fortune for it. The rise of this Chinese AI app can harm NVIDIA and other firms that have invested billions in developing AI chips and other tools, as per reports the AI-related stocks in the market took a major hit on 27th January 2025, as NVIDIA shares dropped down 17% and shedding $600 billion in its value, making it the biggest one-day loss for a firm in the history of the stock market.

Deepseek’s low development cost caught a lot of people off-guard as OpenAI, Google and other U.S. companies are planning to invest about $1 trillion in AI in the next few years, whereas Deepseek’s development cost is between  $6 million to $12 million.

Which one is better?

Both ChatGPT and Deepseek are cutting-edge technologies, both serve different purposes and without a doubt, both have their pros and cons.

Firstly let’s take a look at both technologies in brief:

ChatGPT

ChatGPT was Introduced in 2022 as a generative artificial intelligence chatbot, developed by OpenAI, ChatGPT consists of the following features-

  • Transformer-based model for versatility
  • Limited customization
  • Manual implementation of fairness checks required
  • Ideal for general information and creative tasks
  • Moderate speed varies from task to task
  • Expensive training cost
  • Resource-intensive
  • Suitable for a wide range of applications from casual conversations.
  • Pre-trained for broad applications without extra tuning
  • Focuses on narrow AI
  • Large and active developer community
Deepseek

Deepseek is a MoE language model, an AI-powered chatbot, first introduced in 2023, it consists of the following features and more-

  • Free of cost
  • Aims for AGI
  • Task-specific intelligence
  • Tailored for businesses
  • Uses algorithms for more efficiency
  • Large language model
  • Mixture-of-Experts(MoE) framework
  • Optimized for specific tasks, strong logical breakdowns
  • High customization
  • Ideal for technical problem-solving and domain-specific tasks
  • Comparatively faster
  • Structured and task-focused
  • Highly scalable
  • Claims to generate better code than other AI models

And the list goes on, but it all comes down to a point that both serve different purposes so it all depends on your needs, if you want something more cost-efficient, tech-focused, and faster, Deepseek might be the perfect fit for you but if you’re looking for something easy-to-use and creative and more conversational, ChatGPT is good to go.

Deepseek might be ideal in the case of giving more accurate, elaborate, and precise answers as it is optimized for technical and specialized queries.

Therefore there is no right answer to the question “Which one is better” unless you’re sure about your needs.

Conclusion

In this battle of Deepseek and ChatGPT, there might not be a winner, at least for quite some time, but it is truly shocking how a small company with less than 200 people who made Deepseek as a side project can challenge the big bulls of tech industry like NVIDIA and OpenAI with such a low budget and few months.

The introduction of Deepseek in the AI world surely brought some disruptions both in the stock market and the AI world, but on the brighter side, people also got something that is more efficient, cost-effective, and more domain-specific. ChatGPT was surely a good AI but what it lacked was precision and optimization for specific tasks, Deepseek is a catch if one is looking for better and accurate code or technical answers but if you’re looking for something creative and general then ChatGPT is a good option.
